Cotton bowls or cotton rolls are the most traditional form of rollers that are still in use for Calendaring applications. The cotton bowl was firstly used in 80’s and since then it is the first choice for every calendar.
The reason for inclination towards cotton roll is the adaptability of cotton roll. The cotton roll produced by the SMART ROLL INDUSTRIES are made from the finest fibers from the best processed cellulose which provides high resilience and strength. This makes the bowl resistant to marking and provides the uniform lusture.
CONSTRUCTION:
Cotton rolls are produced from the cotton fibers which are selected on the basis of their length and denier to optimize the best working performance on the machine. These fibers are then carded and air-laid on the carding machine to form the layer of uniform thickness. This layer is then converted into donuts and hydraulically pressed with a load of hundreds of tonnes. The pressed roll is then turned and grinded on the lathe machine to achieve the desired Ra value.
The lusture and smoothness of the surface is what makes the cotton roll valuable. The gloss on the fabric is achieved by cotton roll so the surface finish is the most important part. Similarly cotton bowl is also used on super calendar in paper industry for finishing of paper
Applications:
Textile Calenders: The cotton rolls are ideal for the Textile calenders be it 3-bowl calender or 7-bowl calendar.
Schreiner Machines: Cotton bowls can be used on two bowl calender as well where on bowl is embossed with fine lines to impart the gloss.
Embossing Machines: Soft cotton rolls can be used with hard steel embossing rolls for the Textile apparels and paper manufacturing.
Paper Industry: Cotton bowls are also preferred by paper industry and can be used on the Super-calendars.
Benefits and Advantages:
Mark Resistant:Cotton bowls are highly mark resistant and are generally not affected by the crease markings of the fabric.
Low maintenance cost:Cotton bowls are easy to maintain as no special care is required for these. Most of the operators have working knowledge of these rolls.
Grinding:Cotton rolls are easy to grind as these rolls generally do not require any CNC machines to be ground.
Low cost:The roll cost is very less almost half of the Polyamide rolls and lesser than the paper roll.
Long life:If the proper care is taken and used between the set limits cotton rolls tends to last longer than other rolls.
